About UsThe Tamarix Cooperative Mapping Initiative (T-Map) is a cooperative partnership designed to combat the invasion of Tamarix species into North American landscapes. Our primary mission is to provide real-time accurate locational information on current Tamarix populations / infestations. We aim to provide a 'bulletin board' like setting in which trusted land managers, scientists, and concerned public may contribute data about known occurrences. Our combined research projects range from investigations of small-scale invasion trends to large scale invasion patterns. We conduct applied field ecology research and also perform multi-scale ecosystem modeling. We aim to identify those factors which can be easily measured or derived for natural areas that best predict the occurrence of Tamarix species and their hybrids spatially and temporally across landscapes. Our motivation is to help land managers be better prepared to detect and control invasive species. T-Map was conceived by the USGS National Institute of Invasive Species Science to be a cooperative partnership. Please feel free to contact us and start helping us fight this harmful invader! |
